Dashboard Definitions

  • Event: An instance of wildlife trafficking e.g. a seizure or arrest.
  • Product: The specific part of an animal being trafficked e.g., the skin or tooth of an animal. The product may be left raw such as an elephant tusk, or processed such as a piece of elephant ivory.
  • Arrests: A trafficker is detained by legal authority.

Not suitable for academic research as data is limited to EAGLE's monthly briefing summaries and there are inaccuracies in the extraction of data from the text.

Limitations of choropleth maps: Choropleth maps color predefined areas in proportion to the statistical variable being displayed. They are used to easily visualize the variation across regions, however, details in the data can be lost as it is grouped by countries and is segmented by geopolitcal borders.
